​What is the function of a distribution transformer?
The distribution transformers up to 300 kVA are designed to  adjust the voltages supplied by local utility companies, which are high and dangerous, to appropriate levels for the safe application in industrial, commercial and residential enterprises.
WEG was one of the first manufacturers of Distribution Transformers up to 300 kVA to receive the certification from the Brazilian Labeling Program coordinated by INMETRO(National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology) and Eletrobrás, which confirms the compliance of the products with the power saving and energy efficiency standards. ​
​Characteristics 
  • Manufactured according to the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards and/or in strict compliance with the customers' technical specifications;
  • Products certified by the Brazilian Labeling Program, complying with the requirements of power conservation and energy efficiency;
  • Standardized outputs of 30, 45, 75, 112.5, 150, 225 and 300 kVA, in classes 15 and 24.2 kV;
  • Jencore-type magnetic core, allowing optimization of the no-load losses and reduction of the exciting current;
  • Conductors covered with thermostabilized insulating paper class E (120 °C), whose special characteristic is to delay the regular aging process of the transformer;
  • They allow installation on poles or platform;
  • Option of natural or synthetic ester-based insulation fluid, fully compatible with the conservation of the environment  (biodegradable liquid), presenting high safety level of flammability with a fire point twice as high as the one of mineral oil and self-extinguishing properties, thus reducing the risk of fire propagation.

​What is the purpose of a small power transformer?
The small power transformers, whose output varies from 301 to 3,000 kVA, are used to adjust the voltages supplied by the local utility company to the appropriate voltage levels  for application in industries and enterprises in general.
In power generation systems, they are used as step-up transformers, adjusting the low voltages of generation to the necessary levels for consumption and distribution.  Today, transformers of this class are also widely used for renewable power generation systems (wind power).
Characteristics 
  • Usual outputs 500, 750, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 kVA, in classes 15, 24.2 and 36.2 kV;
  • High performance with high efficiency, according to the needs and strategies to reduce system losses and save energy of each customer;
  • Step-lap-type magnetic core, resulting in optimization of the noise level, better natural anchoring of the set to withstand short circuit stresses, and low excitation current;
  • Conductors covered with thermostabilized insulating paper class E (120 °C), whose special characteristic is to delay  the regular aging process of the transformer;
  • Hermetically sealed tank, extending the duration of the physical and chemical properties of the insulating oil;
  • External coatings for the harshest environments, upon specification;
  • Compact design, simplifying installation and transportation;
  • Oil level, temperature and pressure controlled by a single protection accessory (RIS – Integrated Safety Detector);
  • Option of ecologically correct (natural or synthetic ester-based, biodegradable) insulation fluid, presenting high safety level of flammability with fire point twice as high as the one of mineral oil and self-extinguishing properties, thus reducing the risk of fire propagation.
